If you’re more of a details type of person….keep reading!
Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, with three brothers, I have always been an adventurous, athletic, adrenaline junky. I am happiest when I’m in the mountains or in any type of water. Sucked in by the thrill of being thrown in the air, I spent my high school and college years cheerleading, snowboarding and wakeboarding. One year after marrying my husband, we moved to Santa Barbara, California and spent 3 years doing nothing but surfing and playing golf (and working a little bit, of course!). Sounds like a dream, right? It was. But, as amazing as it was, we missed being near our families. So, when my husband’s cousin called him one day and asked him to move back to Utah and open a bike shop – we did.
I spent the next 8 1/2 years working my way up the ladder, eventually becoming the marketing coordinator for one of the best vision correction surgeons in the world. It was a great job and I was incredibly fortunate to be put in such a coveted position with zero experience in the marketing field. I will forever be grateful for the experiences I had and the things I learned. However, it didn’t make me happy. I’m really not a sit-at-a-computer-all-day type of person. After I had my son, it got even harder for me to be there. After 4 years of going part-time, back to full-time, and then part-time again, I finally bit the bullet, put on my brave-girl pants (in this case, yoga pants!) and made a change. Following a series of events that I have no doubt happened for a reason, I found myself enrolling in yoga teacher training. That summer, I was hired by Dancing Moose Montessori as their “Movement Specialist” and shortly after, I also started teaching adult classes at Core Power Yoga. It’s been a long, challenging road, but I’m delighted to now spend my days “working” at jobs that fulfill me. I am so passionate about yoga and love that I get to share that passion with others.
I am also a huge fan of art – in any and every form – when I discovered the amazing world of henna, I was immediately hooked. After 2 years of dabbling in the art of Mehndi as a hobby, I am now sharing it professionally at farmer’s markets, festivals and through private parties and appointments.
I started upwardfacingmicki.com as a way of spreading positivity and optimism through movement and art. I firmly believe in the power of positive thinking, and love connecting with others and sharing good vibes through yoga and henna.
